La Jolla Country Club
A hillside pocket of La Jolla wrapped around the Country Club golf course — south of Pearl Street, north of Muirlands Drive, about half a mile from the coast.
The Country Club name local buyers use is really about place: the streets and lots that sit against the fairways of the La Jolla Country Club. City staff describe the club itself at 7301 High Avenue, inside the La Jolla Community Plan area — an open-space golf course landmark with single-dwelling homes around most of its edge. When I show property here, I start with the lot, the slope, and how close you are to the Village downhill — not with a label on a listing flyer.
The place
Where it sits. City Planning Commission materials place the La Jolla Country Club at 7301 High Avenue, south of Pearl Street, north of Muirlands Drive, and about one-half mile from the coast, in Council District 1 and the La Jolla Community Plan Area.
The landmark. The club site is about 118 acres, split-zoned RS-1-1 / RS-1-2, designated Parks/Open Space in the Community Plan / Local Coastal Program land-use map, and identified as a golf course (private open space). It has operated as a golf course since 1926. The original clubhouse was designed by Herbert Mann and built in 1927.
Housing around it. City staff describe a mixture of single-dwelling unit development around most of the club’s periphery, with multi-dwelling development to the west. (City report PC-24-004; place description only.)
Overlays on the club site. Coastal Overlay Zone (Non-Appealable), Coastal Height Limit Overlay Zone, Parking Impact Overlay Zone (Coastal Impact), and Transit Area Overlay Zone.
Name vs map. “Country Club” is a useful local label for the residential fabric around that landmark. It is not a separate Planned District like La Jolla Shores. Edges toward the Muirlands are informal in everyday use — compare by street and parcel, not by brochure name alone. See the Muirlands and the hub La Jolla.
Building & remodel notes
This area sits in the La Jolla Community Plan area. Confirm your parcel on City maps. It is not inside the La Jolla Shores Planned District — Shores rules are separate (La Jolla Shores, remodel & rebuild rules).
Height: 30 feet. The club site is in the Coastal Height Limit Overlay Zone. Citywide, Prop D / SDMC §132.0505 caps buildings at 30 feet on city land west of Interstate 5. Only a citywide vote can change that section. Confirm the parcel with City Development Services.
Older structures. Work on buildings 45 years or older can trigger the City’s survey-need determination under SDMC §143.0212. See La Jolla 45-year historic review. A Coastal Development Permit may also apply depending on the parcel.

What remodel or permit notes should buyers know?
